Freeport: Donald E. Thomas, 80, of Freeport, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born July 15, 1927 in New Haven, Connecticut he was the son of Paul and Dorothy (Heine) Thomas. He married Lois Sundvall September 19, 1953 in Milford, Connecticut.
Don received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
He was a veteran of the Navy serving from 1945 through 1947.
He was a former Vice President of Hudson Wire Company in New York, general manager at Burgess Battery, and owned Action Packaging in Rockford.
Don was active in community service, most recently he served on the advisory board for the Freeport Salvation Army.
Surviving is his wife, Lois of Freeport; son, Mark (Ingrid) Thomas of Stafford, VA; daughter, Susan (John) O'Brien of Carmel, NY; Lynn Thomas of Freeport; and son, Craig (Dawn) Thomas of Belvidere; grandchildren, Lindsay, Stacey and David Thomas, Kerianne and Christie O'Brien, and Matt, Ben and Joe Thomas; and sister, Carol (James) Kerkstra of Carbondale.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Paul.
Graveside service and burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. Visitation will be Friday from 3-6 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
