Donald E. Thruman, 85, of Freeport, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford.
Born February 20, 1930 in Freeport he was the son of Robert and Alice (Shay) Thruman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. On July 30, 1955 he married Janet Lebrecht and she died November 4, 2007. Don was a well known Freeport personality. He was the bar manager for the Red Cedar Inn and later for the Circle Lounge. A kind hearted man with a great sense of humor, Don was a people person with a very positive attitude. He was always in a good mood. He enjoyed his family especially the times spent at Crystal Lake, Wisconsin. He adored his grandchildren. Surviving are his daughters, Julie (Mike) Nelson and Rebecca (Daniel) Zueger both of Freeport and Toni (Thomas) Erickson of Davis; sons, Mark (Wanda) Thruman of Ithaca, New York and Todd (Mary Wallace) Thruman of Freeport; one sister, Phyllis Loring of Rockford; two brothers, Glen (Nelda) Thruman and Jimmie Thruman both of Freeport; ten grandchildren, Nathan (Amber Aebly) Thruman, Wes and Michelle Thruman, Abby and Chris Farringer, Melissa (Corey) Young, Makenzie and Alex Zueger, Megan and Lauren Erickson; four great grandchildren, Cole, Juleigha, and Jaycelynn Farringer, and Brayden Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Kerry, one sister and five brothers. Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Walker Mortuary. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday, April 25 at Walker Mortuary Following the service cremation rites will be accorded and his cremated remains will be buried in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
