Doris Marie Carpenter, 88, of Naperville, IL, formerly of Freeport, passed away Sunday, August 31, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 15, 1926, in Freeport, IL, to Walter and Iva Mae (Koon) Marsh. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1944. She married Carlton Louis Staben October, 1945 and Gerald Carpenter in 1969. Doris worked as a librarian at Freeport High School, an executive assistant at Highland Community College and a customer service rep. for Boye Needle. She was always on the move, busy with golf, bowling, swimming, quilting and her beloved bridge groups. In her later years she enjoyed zooming around Naperville in her motor chair and had become quite an accomplished painter. Doris is survived by her loving children Jon Staben(Cathy), Mary Jo Arredia, Michael Staben(Brenda) , Ann Griffin(William), her adoring grandchildren Eric Staben (Laura), Jenny Staben, Kirsten Hendrickson, Todd Staben(fiancée Samantha Bartkowiak), Leah Hendrickson, great-grandson Daniel Staben, sisters Joan Buscemi and Joyce Jegerlehner, brother Earl Marsh and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were Carlton and Gerald, her brothers Ken Marsh, Vernon Marsh, John Marsh and sister Betty Hofmaster. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday September 5 at St. John's UCC, 1010 S. Park Blvd. Freeport, with service immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 7 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's UCC, 5739 Dunham Rd., Downers Grove, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul's UCC, Downers Grove.
