Obituary

Doris Marie (Landgraf) Hannah, age 100 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Manor Court in Freeport. Doris was the daughter of Otto and Kathryn (Cornelius) Landgraf.  She was born March 31, 1918 in Freeport, IL and attended Freeport schools and Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN.  She married Richard D. Hannah in a church wedding on July 13, 1943, during World War II when Dick returned to the states from Europe to attend Officers' Candidate School.  After his graduation, they began their married life together at Camp Perry, Ohio on the southern shore of Lake Erie.  When he left for Guam, she returned to Freeport.

Doris was employed as an executive secretary to the U.S. Grant Council, Boy Scouts of America until she was married.   She later was employed half days by Freeport School District #145 for 24 years.

Doris was an active member for over 50 years of United Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women's Assn., Chapter LI of P.E.O., volunteered for Meals on Wheels, worked at F.A.C.C., sang in the church choir, was a choir mother for the Junior Choir and helped at the Church Bargainette.

She was a 50-year member of the Civic Garden Club and President, Ladies of the Elks, and honorary member of the Amity Society, Freeport Arts Center, Lincoln Douglas Society, Stephenson County Historical Society and Friends Forever Humane Society.

Doris enjoyed traveling, gardening, flower arranging, knitting, crafts, bridge and cards, music and reading.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Richard D. Hannah, her parents, an infant brother, and a daughter, Linda Kay Mitchell.

Surviving is a son, Terry (Johanna) Hannah of Jacksonville FL; three grandchildren, Joey Hannah of Austin, TX, Bryan (Sarah) Mitchell of Gilbert, AZ, and Jennifer (Paul) Diaz of Santee, CA; one great grandson, Ryan Diaz and one great granddaughter, Giana Diaz, of Santee, CA.

A private burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Freeport with a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FHN Hospice.
