Freeport-Doris A. Ontjes, 86, of Freeport, died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 in Mesa, Arizona. She was surrounded by loved ones who will miss her dearly.
Born June 23, 1918 in Freeport she was the daughter of Charles and Sarah (Oswalt) Dahm. She married John Ontjes December 5, 1936 in Freeport and he died January 13, 2002.
She worked at Burgess Battery, Micro Switch, and managed the Wonder Bread Store until retiring in 1982. She and her husband sold homegrown vegetables for many years.
Doris was a very talented, caring, and giving person. She gave her life to her family and others. Everyone that knew her will remember her sense of humor. She loved to cook and work with her hands doing crafts, knitting, and crocheting.
Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Rice of Freeport, Marsha (Ron) Kornegay of Goodyear, Arizona, Ruth (David) Ross of Rockford, and Patricia Roberts of Gilbert, Arizona; one son, John A. (Tammy) Ontjes of Mesa, Arizona; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; her husband, John, they are together again as they always were; 2 daughters, Marie Ontjes and Sarah Cooper.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main St.
Visitation will be Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of her cremains will be at Grandview Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
