Dorothy Jean Lief, 85 of Freeport died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Born January 12, 1929 in Freeport she was the daughter of Ben and Frieda Lindgren. She was a graduate of Freeport High School. Dorothy worked many years for the Stephenson County Abstract and Title Co. She married Donald Loring in 1951, he preceded her in 1979. She then married Iner Lief in 1981 and he preceded her in 2000. She was a past member of St. John United Church of Christ and enjoyed going to the Oasis for coffee. Surviving are two sons David (Kathi Altensey) Loring of Freeport, Daniel (Sherry) Loring of Freeport; two daughters Hope (Steven) Bradford of Pecatonica, Mary Jane (Sam) Ferguson of Pecatonica; eleven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; two sisters Betty Matthews of Freeport, Mary Bauch of Mt. Carroll; nieces, nephews and many friends at the Oasis. Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands, two daughters Holly, Melissa, two sister's Bernice Anderson and Lee Fickes. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial gathering will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Walker Mortuary. Service will be at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dustin Wilkenson officiating. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Freeport. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.
