DOROTHY M. SPANGLER, 103 of Durand, formerly of the Ridott area, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Medina Manor Nursing Center in Durand.
She was born May 10, 1910 in Silver Creek Township, the daughter of Wm. Wesley and Theodocia (Wise) Spangler.
Dorothy graduated from Freeport High School in 1928. She attended College at Blackburn in Carlinville where she received her Bachelor Degree and Teaching Certificate. She then taught in many Stephenson County Schools, she was noted for her school programs with costumes and enjoyed working with children. She loved to take the children into the woods and pick wildflowers to make May baskets. Dorothy also taught Sunday school at the Ridott United Brethren Church.
She was a member of the Dakota-Rock Grove United Methodist Church in Dakota.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters Bernice Bowers, Helen Scott and Ada Ubben and one brother Kenneth Spangler.
Funeral service will be held 11a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Bourke officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Private burial will be in Silver Springs Cemetery.
