Dorothy M. Thoman, 85 of Freeport died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born February 24, 1928 in Freeport she was the daughter of Christian and Anna (Plocek) Holtum. She was a graduate of Freeport High School. On June 30, 1946 she and Delmar Thoman were united in marriage, he preceded her in death on August 14, 2009. Dorothy worked as a secretary for Attorney Edward J. Sullivan and Freeport School District 145 for 23 years at Harlem and Empire Elementary Schools. She was a Lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Freeport, where she taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of the Martha Circle and currently a member of O.W.L.S. She enjoyed playing cards, watching the wildlife in the country especially the turkeys. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage in Wisconsin and her cat Missy. She is survived by her daughter Sally A. (Stephen) Hoffman of Ridott; two grandsons Eric (Pam Long) Hoffman and Daniel (Hillary Neuendorf) Hoffman both of Freeport; daughter-in-law Deborah Thoman of West Dundee; a sister Betty Shockey. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Delmar, son David, two sisters Beatrice and Charlotte. Visitation will be Tuesday May 14, 2013 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. Funeral service will be Wednesday 10:30 am at the First Lutheran Church Freeport with Reverend Keith Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Freeport. A memorial has been established in her name for the First Lutheran Church.
