Freeport: Dorothy A. Valkema 95, of Freeport died Saturday August 21, 2004 at Parkview Home.
Born September 22, 1908 in Lanark she was the daughter of William and Catherine (Orth) Kloepping. On March 14, 1929 she married Harold Valkema in Chicago. He preceded her in death in April of 1983.
Dorothy was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and their Women's fellowship and EES Circle. She was also a member of Scottish Rite Women's Club.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, and she was always known for her wonderful smile.
Surviving are two sons, Quentin E. (JoAnne) and Donald F. (Norma) Valkema; one daughter, Carol (Stanley E.) Smith all of Freeport; one brother, Lloyd (Marilynn) Kloepping of Lanark; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.
Her parents; husband; 2 brothers; and 5 sisters; 1 great grandson; and her daughter in-law, Ann Valkema preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John United Church of Christ with Reverend Donnley Dutcher officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for St. John United Church of Christ Scholarship Fund.
