Douglas B. Berg, 71, of Rock City, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at his home.
Born September 1, 1942 in Rockford he was the son of John A. and Doris M. (Geddes) Berg.
He married Jari L. Greene June 12, 1964.
Doug graduated from Durand H.S. in 1961.
He served in the Navy from 1961 to 1963 on the USS Canisteo.
Doug was employed by Larson Brothers Sand and Gravel and then farmed in the Rock City area since 1967.
Doug loved the land and all of God's creation and his lifelong dream was farming. Doug had a wide variety of interests. He was an active conservationist planting hundreds of trees and creating habitats for wildlife. He enjoyed hunting, especially hunting fox and coyote with hounds and muzzleloading rifles, traveling and was an avid reader.
He was a founding member of Rock Run Long Rifles and Indian Grove Country Church.
Doug cherished time with family and friends.
Doug fiercely battled FSH Muscular Dystrophy for almost 27 years, adjusting with grace to each new challenge.
Surviving are his wife, Jari of Rock City; his children, Andrew Berg of Machesney Park and Teresa (Kevin) Davies of Rockton; his grandchildren, Carson Davies, Kyra (Kyle) Marshall and Colton Davies; his siblings, April (Jan) VanRens, of Kendall, WI, Gary (Elaine) Berg of Durand, Robert Berg, Tomah, WI and Trina (Arnold) Ames of Rockford; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeffrey Berg.
Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Indian Grove Country Church in Rock City with Pastor Ralph Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in the Rock Grove Union Cemetery at Rock Grove.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
