Rockford-Douglas E. Harbers, 37, of Rockford, formerly of Freeport, died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at his home in Rockford.
Born February 21, 1967 in Freeport he was the son of Edward H and Diana K (Dauphin) Harbers.
He graduated from Freeport High School in 1985.
He was a volunteer on the Freeport Rural Ambulance, a paramedic for Ginders Graham Ambulance in Rockford, volunteer fireman for Log Cabin Department of Cherry Valley Fire Department, worked security at Cherryvale, was a Rockford Park District policeman and worked security at the Metro Center.
After his eyesight failed, he worked at the Winnebago County State Attorney Office with the use of special computer and his beloved Leader Dog, Casey.
He celebrated his 3rd year as a kidney recipient in July.
Surviving are his mother, Diana (Jim) Chaplin of Lake Carroll; daughter, Candace Marie Harbers of Belvidere; son, Aaron Maronde of Rockford; step- brothers, Ronald Harbers of Nebraska, Brad (Tammy) Mellor of Rochelle, and Mike (Corie) Chaplin of Indianapolis, IN; step-sisters, Yvonne (Craig) Danekas and Beverly (Tim) O'Brien both of Rochelle, Angie Chaplin of Western Springs, Tracy (Rick) Meisterheim of Wolverine, MI, and Leslie Chaplin of Culver, MN; 1 aunt, Gloria (Del) Roberts of Freeport; 2 uncles, Charles (Paulette) Dauphin of Burns, TN and Burt (Peg) Dauphin of Savanna; 4 cousins; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
His father; stepfather, Jim Mellor and a nephew, Steve Harbers, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be Wednesday 3 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
