Obituary

Douglas A. Schoonhoven, age 80 of Dakota, IL, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI. He was born on April 26, 1938 in Forreston, IL; the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Hayenga) Schoonhoven. Douglas married Carol Toelke on September 29, 1957; she passed on March 2, 2011.

He was a graduate of Orangeville High School. Driving truck was not only his job, it was his passion. He loved hauling milk and meeting the area farmers, many of which became friends over the years. He later continued to drive as an over the road truck driver. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing and boating. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons and their families, Dennis, his wife Angie and children, Travis and Tyler of Pecatonica, Terry and his wife Kathy and children Tanner (kristina) of West Lake and Sierra of Rock City; sisters, Belva (Delmar) Schulz of Orangeville, Florene Stultz of Allegan, MI, and Juanita (James) Harris of Freeport; and several nieces & nephews (you were all his favorite).

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carol; and sister, Genevieve Stewart.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 6 th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota. The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 7 th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in Davis. Interment will take place at St. Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association.
