Doyle R. Mackenzie, 60, of Freeport, passed away suddenly on February 3, 2026. Doyle was born on July 25, 1965, in Freeport, to Robert “Bob-BMac” and Rose Mackenzie. After graduating from Freeport High School in 1983, Doyle began his lifelong career as a roofer, proudly working for 35 years with the Local 11 Roofers Union.
Doyle was a man who valued hard work, family, and friendship above all else. His dedication to his sons and their passion for motocross was unmatched—he rarely missed a race and was always there as part of the pit crew, cheering them on every step of the way. Doyle was known for lending a helping hand to anyone in need and for his loyalty as both a friend and a union brother. Outside of work and racing weekends, Doyle enjoyed spending time with his friends shooting pool. His favorite moments were those spent surrounded by loved ones, whether at the track, jumping on his skid loader, shooting pool, or simply sharing stories and laughter on Friday nights at the Shawnee. Doyle’s biggest achievements weren’t just in his career—they were found in the lives he touched and the family he loved.
He was the loving father of Robert “RJ” Mackenzie (Ciara), Kevin (Kendall) Markwardt, Craig (Sara) Daily, and Kyle Daily; the beloved grandfather of Chloe Rose, Finnegan, Elliott, Axel, Liam, Owen, Jia, and Julian; the cherished son of Rose Mackenzie; and the dear brother of Jodi Mackenzie-Gempler.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Mackenzie. Doyle will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his laughter on Friday nights at the pool table, and for always being there—especially behind the starting gate at the dirt bike track.
Services will be held at Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main St., Freeport, IL, on Tuesday, February 10, with visitation starting at 2:00 p.m. and a service to follow at 3:00 p.m.
For those who wish to assist the family, donations may be made to RJ and Rose Mackenzie for the Doyle Mackenzie Memorial Fund. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com
