John C. Barrett, commonly known as “Jack” was born April 11, 1930 and passed away peacefully at his home on February 26.
Born and raised in Freeport, Jack graduated from Freeport High School before attending Oberlin College. He went on to earn his dental degree from Northwestern Dental School and interned at U. of Chicago for one year, then served in the United States Army Dental Corps for three years in Germany. He returned to Freeport to establish his dental practice. After years as a dentist, he returned to U. of Chicago and earned a Masters of Orthodontics and came back to “make smiles.”
He remained active in professional dental societies, First Presbyterian Church, and the Kiwanis Club.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Helen and his children Pamela and Gregory. Thankfully Jack was able to be cared for at home by his wife, with special thanks to the VA, Comfort Keepers, and FHN Hospice.
