Earl Schoonhoven , age 83 of Freeport, IL, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born December 19, 1934; the son of the late Henry and Elsie (Tielkemeier) Schoonhoven. He attended Freeport High School. On May 27, 1955, Earl married Helen Vallarta.

He had served in the United States Naval Reserve. Earl had drove school bus for Dakota Schools for over 20 years. He was also an electrician for Honeywell, retiring after 36 years. He was a member of the Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church where he had served as a trustee. He loved the outdoors, especially biking, camping, fishing and hiking with his dog, Sadie. He also enjoyed woodworking. Earl loved his family and was a good provider.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Schoonhoven of Freeport; 5 children, Debra (David) Kraft of Freeport, Rose Meier of Cedarville, IL, Tom (Patty) Schoonhoven of Davis, IL, Sam (Jodi) Schoonhoven of Freeport, and Jennifer (John) Cline of Shannon, IL; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and brothers, Emerson Schoonhoven of California and Donald Schoonhoven of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
