Obituary

FREEPORT * Edward S. Cichon, 81, of Freeport, former Forreston resident, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
Edward was the devoted husband of Florence Cichon, whom he married Oct. 7, 1955, in Chicago. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this coming year.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, a veteran who proudly served in the Pacific Fleet throughout the war.
He and his wife moved from Chicago to a small farm in the country 41 years ago, wanting a slower paced lifestyle.
He was the loving father to Raymond Cichon of Forreston, Robert (Lynn) Cuny of Freeport and Edward (Sue) Cuny of Roselle; and grandfather to LeAnn Cuny, Cathy Cuny, Beth Ann Cuny, Steven Cuny, John Cuny, Nicholas Cuny and Ryan Cuny. Also surviving is his sister, Lottie (the late Edward) Kolman of Chicago.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Helen and Joseph Cichon; one sister, Mary Tram and one brother, John Cichon.
Mr. Cichon was retired from a life work of a tool and die maker. He loved living in the country, everything about nature, long walks with his beloved dogs and working with his hands. All he wanted, and found, was a simple life.
He will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Mortuary with Monsignor P. William McDonnell of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
