Freeport-Edward D. Halzel, Sr., 92, of Freeport, died Friday, August 17, 2007, at his home.
Born November 4, 1914 in Freeport he was the son of Frank and Anna (Alich) Halzel Sr. He married Verla L. Hoffman December 16, 1939. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2000.
He worked at Kraft, Fairbanks Morse, Structo, owned and operated a local gas station, and then Micro Switch retiring after 17 years.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening, wood working, and going to the River Boat. He loved to help his friends and family.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn (Richard) Wagner and Judith K. Halzel; three sons, Edward A. Halzel, James P. Halzel, and Ronald L. (Peggy) Halzel all of Freeport; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one sister in-law, Millie Halzel of Stoughton, Wisconsin; his caregiver and family friend, Judy Deppe of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; five brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend John Hollis of First Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday 5 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
