Edward M. Gustafson, 89, of Freeport, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born January 7, 1919 in Middle River, Minnesota he was the son of Peter E. and Annie Emilie (Hoffos) Gustafson. He married Ruth H. Herbeck March 29, 1941 and she died January 23, 1977. He married Marjorie Mellenthin Meighan July 29, 1977.
Edward did plumbing in North Dakota prior to working at Micro Switch for 12 years, Amerock in Rockford for 7 years, and for the last 30 years worked with John Zajicek at Knollwood Estates.
He was a veteran of World War II.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Freeport.
Surviving is his wife, Marjorie of Freeport; sons, Ronald (Ruth) Gustafson of Alaska and Harlen (Pamela) Gustafson of Arizona; his daughter, Vicki (John) Noland of Utah; his stepsons, Dean Meighan of Florida and Howard (Barbara) Meighan of Arizona; his brother, Kenneth W. Gustafson of Idaho; his sister, Ellen Ross of Freeport; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 5 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; his son-in-law, Carlton Johnson of Freeport; his step daughter in-law Linda Meighan of Freeport; many nieces and nephews; his good friends, Paul (Elfriede) Neumann of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth; his daughter, Yvonne Johnson; his stepson, Rich Meighan; 4 brothers; 5 sisters; and 1 step great great grandchild.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The visitation will be Tuesday 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
