Edward A. Halzel Jr., 75, formerly of Freeport, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Rock River Health Care in Rockford.
Born July 11, 1940 in Freeport he was the son of Edward and Verla (Hoffman) Halzel Sr.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, who served from 1958 to 1962, as a Machinist Mate, Second Class, on the USS Forrestal.
Edward worked at Quebecor Printing for 14 years, Acme Resin in Oregon, R & D Manufacturing, Insurance Sales, and was a Kirby Vacuum salesman.
An avid fisherman he enjoyed video games, bowling, and trips to Great America.
Edward would work three jobs at once to make sure his family was taken care of.
Surviving are his children, Steve Halzel of Rockford, Valerie (Lowell) Lindell of Loves Park, Richard and Jeff Halzel both of Rockford; his sisters, Carolyn Wagner and Judy Halzel both of Freeport; his brothers, Jim Halzel and Ron (Peg) Halzel both of Freeport; two grandchildren, Lauren and Elizabeth Tapp; 1 great grandson Jaxson Tapp.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Walker Mortuary.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary on Saturday, May 7, 2016.
Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
A memorial has been established.
