Obituary

Freeport – Edward J. Meyers, 88 of Freeport died at home with his family by his side.  He was born on February 9, 1932 in Freeport to the late Edward F. and Josephine (Henderson) Meyers.  He graduated from Freeport High School and entered the army in 1951 serving our country in the Korean conflict until 1953.  He married the love of his life, Dolores "Dee" (Bittner Higgs) in 1963 and she passed away in April of 2008.

Edward worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for 42 years. He enjoyed many things in life including bowling, golfing, fishing, playing euchre and traveling to Texas every winter. He was a happy go lucky person.  He never met a stranger.

Edward is survived by his daughters Cindy (Daryl) Wilson and Lori (Jim) Hartman both of Freeport.  His sons, Steve (Teri) Meyers of Mt. Morris and Edward Meyers of Freeport. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou (Brian) Donahue of Bartlett, Il. He has 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 6 great- great grandchildren. He was a loving Grandpa to his two granddogs, Mimi and Gracie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Rick Meyers; his sister, Joanne Brandies and his brother Jerry Meyers.

There will be a 'walk through' visitation with no family present at Walker Mortuary on Monday, December 14 th from 4-6pm.  Private family burial services will be held at Chapel Hill.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established in his name at FHN Hospice.
