Eldon C. Cooke, 86, of Freeport died Thursday June 16, 2011 at Manor Court of Liberty Village, Freeport. Born September 26, 1924, in Lena he was the son of John and Gertrude (Diestelmeier) Cooke. On August 22, 1959 he married Berneice F. Gramley in Eleroy. She preceded him in death May 27, 1999.
Eldon farmed in the Lena area for over 40yrs and drove truck for 20yrs. He was a member of the Freeport Mennonite Church and Gideons International. He volunteered at FHN for over 15yrs and served 2 terms with the Mennonite Central Committee in Akron, PA. Surviving are one son, Dean Cooke of Freeport; one daughter Cynthia (David) Weisel of Morrison; three granddaughters Lydia (Kevin Sweitzer) Weisel of Freeport, Bethany (Jonathan Stevens) Weisel of Reedsburg, WI and Abigail Weisel of Morrison; close friend Irene Jones of Freeport; brother-in-law Delbert Zettle of Freeport and sister-in-law Doris (Dale) Weber of Dakota. Preceding him in death were his parents and wife.
