Freeport-Eldora E. Schneider, 97, of Freeport, died Sunday October 19, 2003 at Freeport Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Born February 8, 1906 in Winona, Minnesota she was the daughter of Henry and Wilhemina Rieck. She married Walter E. Schneider June 1, 1929 in Winona, Minnesota and he died August 7, 1993 after 64 years of marriage.
She was the oldest member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In the 1920's Eldora was in Nurses training, but had to leave shortly before graduating, due to illness. After marriage, they lived in Chicago a while, then DeKalb, Il, moving to Freeport in 1934 when her husband became manager of Western Union. In 1959, they moved to Forest Park, Il, returning to Freeport in 1973.
Eldora enjoyed playing the piano & organ, & doing craft projects, as well as their many vacation trips around the United States. They were also active in Church. She was a self-sacrificing person, who could never say no to anyone asking for her help.
Surviving are two daughters, Marlene Schneider of Apple Valley, Ca. and Yvonne Marcure of Freeport; one brother, Alfred Rieck of Des Moines, Iowa; two sister-in-laws; three grandchildren, Mark Mackert of Arlington, Texas, Sue (George) Cusimano of Freeport, and Deanne (Steve) Dexter of Pensacola, Florida; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Marlene and George Bell of Winnebago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; two brothers; one great-great grandchild; one niece and two nephews.
Funeral service will be Thursday 1 p.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Willis Schwichtenberg and Vicar Brad Klein of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Friends may call Wednesday 5 to 7 p.m. and from 12 noon until time of service Thursday at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established in her name.
