Obituary

Rock City – Eleanor Rae Lamm of Rock City passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2022 with family at her side.  Born on January 23, 1937 in Freeport to the late Arthur and Lucelia (Zweifel) Gorham. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1954.  After high school, Eleanor worked as a dental assistant for a Dr. Orzo Hill. She and Neal Lamm were married on May 26, 1956 and together they raised a family.  He died on May 10, 2018.

Eleanor loved to make quilts.  She has made many for family members.  She has made them to celebrate anniversaries and weddings.  She especially loved making them for the babies in the family.  She loved to cook and bake pies.

Eleanor was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Davis. Eleanor worked as an Avon lady for 35+ years. She helped establish the Rock City Park and assisted with the Rock Run Historical Society alongside Neal.  She was a very active community volunteer, a driver for Tri-District Ambulance, an avid quilter, a chaperone for the Dakota High School Marching Indians and she managed the senior housing in Rock City. Eleanor was the first woman elected to the Dakota School board and served from 1974 to 1980.   In addition she was a member of the Rock City Fireman's Women's Auxiliary.  She taught Religious Education, was a member of the Prayer Tree and assisted with funeral food for many.

Eleanor and Neal wintered in Texas for 22+ years. They were inspired by the Marriage Encounter Weekend experience.

Surviving her are her children, Kevin (significant other, Sally Baker) of Freeport; Crystal 'Christy' (Ron) Fry of Dakota; Andrew (Jonna) Lamm of Rock City; Cecelia Brinkmeier of Dakota; and her brother James Gorham of Freeport.

Her legacy also includes her grandchildren, Emily (Fiance Jeremy Harris); Amy (Chad) Hancock; Kelsey (Kristopher) Lamm Rottmuller; Jill (Jason) Fransen; Matthew (Danielle) Lamm; Timothy Lamm; John (Kristin Robinson) Lamm; Ashley (Daniel) Drouare; three step grandchildren, Anne (Shaun) Gallagher; Meghan Fry and Joe Fry. Great Grandchildren include Zoe Klenz, Boden and Asher Fransen,  Daniel, Emma and Stella Drouare; Ronan Lamm and Charlotte, Liam and Violet Gallagher as well as many nieces and nephews.  There are 3 great grandchildren yet to come in 2022 that she was looking so forward to meeting.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband; sisters Kathryn Sturtevant and Marilyn Gorham as well as sister-in-law, Bonnie Gorham.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 27 th from 2-5pm at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (Irish Grove) in Davis, IL.  Services will be on Monday, March 28 th at 10:30am also at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (Irish Grove) Davis, IL.  Her final resting place will be next to Neal at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (Irish Grove) Cemetery.
