Eleanor (Jane) Lehman, 102, passed away on June 30, 2025, at Liberty Village Manor Court, Freeport, IL. Jane was born on June 22, 1923 in Freeport, IL to Fred Propp and Ruth (Reed) Propp. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1941. Jane married Merlyn Robert Lehman on July 14, 1946 in Freeport. He passed away on May 26, 1978. She was a homemaker and later worked in the Marketing and Communication Department of Micro Switch, retiring in 1988.
Jane studied classical voice from Mrs. Roy Knight Farwell. She sang in Mrs. Farwell's Aeolian Choir, and enjoyed singing with the choir at the Veteran's Hospital in Chicago during World War II. Jane sang a fifteen-minute Radio show each week on the newly created WFRL station during 1947. She was a lifelong member of St. John U.C.C., singing in the choir for over 75 years. She served the church as a member of the Resource Group. She was one of the founding members of the Freeport Choral Society and sang with them for over 50 years. She belonged to the V.F.W. Auxiliary and volunteered at the Rock River Blood Center in Freeport for many years.
Jane is survived by one daughter, Nancy Lehman, of Freeport. She also leaves four sons: Stephen of Shannon, Jeffrey (Martha) of Freeport, Michael (Billie) of Billings, MT, and Timothy of Columbus, GA. She was proud of her 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Brothers and Sisters-in-Law: Janice Byler, and Gene (JoAnne) Lehman. She enjoyed many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her little cat Callie, who was her constant companion. She also leaves her thanks and gratitude to the staff of Liberty Village for their kind care.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Linda (Jeff Krupke), two grandchildren (Andrew and Danielle Lehman), two brothers (Harold and John Propp) and two sisters (Anna Albrecht and Helen Bose). A memorial has been established for St. John's U.C.C. and the Freeport Choral Society. Visitation will be held at St. John's U.C.C. in Freeport at 10:00 a.m. on July 23 followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary.
