Obituary

Elizabeth A. Roush, age 81 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. She was born on March 15, 1937 in Ottumwa, IA; the daughter of the late George and Hazel (Parker) Hein. Elizabeth married Richard Roush on March 15 1953.

She had worked as a hardware store clerk for Fiala's in Woodridge, IL and later as filing manager for Vaughan's Seed Company. Along with working, she was also a homemaker, raising three beautiful daughters. Elizabeth was a 4-H leader and very active in her churches, serving on several boards, committees, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Her church memberships included Plymouth Congregational Church and Church of the Brethren in Ottumwa, IA; Church of the Brethren in Naperville, IL; Lake View UCC in Landen, OH where she and Richard would volunteer at Kings Island every summer; and recently at Bethany UCC of Freeport where they also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

In her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing with her husband in the B-Squares and roller-skating and teaching her daughters how to skate. She also enjoyed bowling, gardening on the farm, horseback riding, and making Christmas sugar cookies. Elizabeth was a beloved grandmother and great grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very helpful and giving person, always there for anyone who needed her. She was known for knowing what you needed before you even knew you needed it.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard Roush of Freeport; daughters, Terri (Robert) Gipson of Jefferson City, MO, Cheryl (Gary) Betz of Naperville, IL, and Diana (Bryan) Voiles of Decatur, IL; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, John (Kathy) Hein of Ottumwa, IA; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Duane) Coltrain of Siren, WI, Sandra Hein of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, and Anna Roush of Agency, IA; and numerous nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister, and 2 nieces.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 20 th at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Ottumwa, IA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name to be donated to a charitable organization.
