Ellen Ruth Kastning Shoup , 95 of Freeport, died February 23, 2021.  Born April 29, 1925 in Arlington Heights, Illinois, she was the daughter of Edwin and Anna Goebbert.  In 1944 she married Harvey Kastning and in 1966 they moved to Freeport.  Together they worked the farm until his passing in 1968.  In 1975 she married Allen Shoup.  She instilled a love of God, gardening, card playing and dancing in her family.  Oakley Courts Assisted Living was her home for the past few years and she fully appreciated the excellent care she received and made many new friends there.

Surviving are her children, Emily (Ian) Bailey, Karl (Donna) Kastning, Steven (Theresa) Kastning.  Allen's children, Linda (Ron) Miller, Debra (Jayme) Linder, and her sister, Betty Albrecht. Grandchildren, Kristin Cumming, Eric Axelson, Lindsey Valenzuela, Lucas Kastning, Chet Kastning, Benjamin Kastning, Aaron Kastning.  Allen's grandchildren, Erin Lo, Meghan Carter, Ryan Muller, Justin Linder and Jodi Linder and Great Grandchildren. Her husbands, and her sister, Virginia Wente predeceased her.
