Elmer J. Stadel, 87, of Freeport, formerly of Hanover, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Born June 29, 1921 in Scales Mound he was the son of Paul and Mollie (Winter) Stadel.
He married Eleanor "Peg" Speer May 29, 1946 and she preceded him in death.
Elmer attended the University of Dubuque for two years and then was off to war. Upon returning he completed his education and received his degree from Northwestern University.
He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran.
Elmer was an accountant for the Savanna Army Depot for 32 years.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Prior to moving to Freeport he was an active member of United Presbyterian Church in Hanover.
Surviving is his daughter, Susan E. (Karl) Bronn of Freeport; his son, John D. (Mindy) Stadel of Rockford; 2 grandchildren, Jeremy Bronn of Freeport and Kevin Bronn of Phoenix, Arizona; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and infant daughter, Lisa Marie; two brothers, Arthur and Willis.
Funeral service will be Saturday 10:30 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church with Reverend Kathleen Luke officiating. Burial will be in the Log Church Cemetery in rural Hanover on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Visitation will be Friday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
