Eloise Zumdahl, 94, passed away peacefully in Freeport, Illinois, with her grandson by her side.
Born on March 30, 1931, in Stamps, Arkansas, Eloise spent most of her life in Freeport. She worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse, serving in Obstetrics at FHN and ending her career at the Shannon Nursing Home.
Eloise lived life on her own terms and faced its challenges with a tenacious spirit. Known for her independence and directness, she was a person who valued self-reliance and routine. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, dancing, crocheting, traveling, bingo, cooking, baking, and canning throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her husbands August Zumdahl, Floyd Adams, and Robert Bawinkel; her longtime companion, Robert Hass; her daughter, Teresa Schwartz; her sister, Norma Rosenberger; her brother, Charles Ray Morris; her parents: Ruby Von Seggren, Theodore Morris, and the stepfather she loved like her father, Christopher Von Seggren. She was also preceded by other close family members.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Bailey; six grandchildren: Miles Schwartz (Missy), Natalie Rundall, Haley Jungles (Paul), Sarah Lucero, Samantha Cerf (Jon), and Scott Bailey; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Sylvia Andrews and Carol Mangum.
There will be a brief visitation held on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 1:00pm immediately followed by a service at 1:30pm all at Walker Mortuary. Her final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in her name. Condolences can be shared with her family at www.walkermortuary.com.
