Elva Jule Matter, 83, of Freeport, died Friday, November 14, 2008, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center after a short illness.
Born February 2, 1925 in Carbondale she was the daughter of Albert and Ona Robinson.
Elva was raised in Forreston as the foster daughter of Chris and Grace Wagens. She attended Ogle county schools.
She was employed by Micro Switch for a number of years.
Elva married Roy S. Matter February 10, 1979 in Rockton and he died May 29, 1985.
Elva was formerly a member of the Forreston Reformed Church and was currently a member of Embury United Methodist Church in Freeport and the United Methodist Women where she was quite active before her illness.
She was also a volunteer with the Freeport Area Church Cooperative.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews including Dorothy Ellis of Carbondale and Donna (James) Neubauer of Belvidere; many great nieces and nephews including Pastor Scott (Noeleen) Neubauer of Lake in the Hills; family friends, Donald and Mildred Brubaker of Freeport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents; husband; 3 sisters; and 1 brother.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Pastor Scott Neubauer of Church in the Word in Elgin officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday 9:30 a.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
Memorials have been established for The Salvation Army and Freeport Area Church Cooperative.
