Freeport-Dr. Erich Awender, 78, of Freeport, after a prolonged battle with
Parkinsons Disease died Friday, November 19, 2004 comfortably at his home in
the company of many of his loving family members.
Born January 27, 1926 in Graz, Austria he was the son of Dr. Jakob and Eva
(Saier) Awender. He married Adelheid Luksch May 21, 1953.
He was a graduate of University of Graz Medical School.
Dr. Awender's medical practice was in Freeport from 1958 until 1995.
His memberships include, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, North American
Illinois Medical Society, American Medical Association, American College of
Surgeons, and American Geriatrics Society.
Surviving are his wife, Adelheid; 1 son, Ralph (fiancé Jacqueline Meyers)
Awender both of Freeport; 1 brother, Dr. Helmut A. (Martha) Awender of
Freeport; 2 grandchildren, Heather and Ashley Awender.
His parents and 1 brother, Dr. Herbert (Carol) Awender of Akron, Ohio
preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be Saturday 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic
Church with Monsignor P. William McDonnell officiating
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Friday 4 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary where at 8 p.m.
there will be a prayer service
