Essix Simmons, 70, of Freeport, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born April 17, 1941 in Web, Mississippi he was the son of Burson and Earlean (McClinton) Simmons. He was married to R.L. Simmons who passed away on October 18, 2004.
Essix was an Auto Mechanic.
He was a member of Philippians Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his mother, Earlean of Chicago; his daughters, Shelly Perkins, Essie Simmons (Roy Ware) both of Memphis, Tennessee, Mary Bland (Trent Gaines) of Freeport, Angie Lawrence of Peoria, and Kathy Lawrence of Freeport; his sons, Larry (Brenda) Simmons of Commerce, Colorado, Avery (Anita) Simmons of Aurora, Colorado, Roger, Otha (Penny), Thella and Dannie (Connie) Bland, Chris (Tonicia) Lawrence, and Essix Lawrence all of Freeport; his sisters, Mary Simmons, Nerlean Luster, Katherine (Maurice) Boyd, and Lisa A. McClinton all of Chicago, and Elizabeth Palmer of California; his brothers, Willie (Essie) Simmons of Freeport, Jesse (Susan) Simmons of Cincinnati, Ohio, David R. McClinton and Prentis McClinton both of Chicago; grandchildren and great grandchildren; his very special friend, Ruth Lawrence of Freeport
He was preceded in death by his Father; wife; 2 brothers, Percy Simmons and Robert Lee Simmons.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday July 2, 2011 at the Philippians Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Philippians Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Nathan Allison officiating.
Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his name.
