Obituary

Freeport-Eugene C. "Ack" Ackerman, 82, of Freeport, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at his home in Freeport.
Born December 3, 1921 in Freeport he was the son of Carl and Ruth (Stewart) Ackerman. He married Jean Landgraf March 31, 1945 at the Second Presbyterian Church.
He graduated from Freeport High School in 1940 and De Forest Electronics School in Chicago.
A World War II veteran serving as Staff Sergeant with U.S. Signal Corps 1942-1946, he was an administrative NCO in charge of personnel while stationed in Casablanca, Africa.
An electronic technician for 38 years with Micro Switch he retired in 1983.
He was a 40-year member of Second Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and usher; also Micro Switch Quarter Century Club, and life member V.F.W. Post 998.
He enjoyed his family, fishing and gardening.
Surviving is his wife; Jean of Freeport; two daughters; Janice (Glen) Kunkle of Freeport and Susan Peterson of Edina, Minnesota; four grandchildren; Jenelle Kunkle of Vinings, Georgia, Kimberly Peterson and Kristin Peterson of Edina Minnesota; Steve Kunkle of Freeport.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Second Presbyterian Church with Reverend Janice Diefenthaler officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Friends may call Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for Second Presbyterian Church.
