Eugene C. Barthel, 86, of Freeport, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at his home after a bout with cancer.
Born May 2, 1928 in Freeport he was the son of Edward C. and Flavia (Glick) Barthel Sr. He married Neva Gaulrapp June 24, 1980 in Lancaster, Wisconsin.
Eugene worked for Hawes Bottling Beverage Company for 29 years and for 15 years for Highland Community College.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Neva; his daughters, Diane (Wayne) Conroy, Cheri G. (Greg) Haack, and Lynn (George) Davis all of Freeport; his stepdaughters, Mary (Jim) Leverington, Jean (Larry) Trimble, Rose (Bill) Smull all of Freeport, Lois (Kirk) Deininger of San Ramone, California; his stepsons, Edward Gaulrapp Jr. of Pearl City and George (Karrie) Gaulrapp of Freeport; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Interment of his cremated remains will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at Walker Mortuary.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. until time of service on Friday at Walker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Hero House in Freeport.
