Freeport – Eugene M. Shade, 94 of Freeport passed away peacefully at Oakley Courts of Freeport.  He was the son of Orley and Lucille (Hybarger) Shade.  Eugene married Norma Bessert on March 15, 1950.  Norma passed away on December 26, 1999. Together they had three children.  Eugene served in the Army during the Korean War.

Eugene enjoyed building and collecting toy trains.  He was involved in the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club and he helped to manage the model train room at the museum.  He and his wife, Norma also enjoyed traveling together in their earlier years.

He is survived by his three children, Christal (David) Ifert of Freeport; Michael (Evelyn) Shade of Florida and Kelly (Kathy) Shade of Texas.  Eugene has seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

At Eugene's request there will be no service.  His final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport with his wife.  A memorial has been established in his name for FHN Hospice of Freeport.
