Freeport-Evelyn D. Roemer, 89, of Freeport, died Saturday, January 22, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born March 23, 1915 in Freeport she was the daughter of Walter and Rachel (Lontz) Daniels. She married William Roemer September 15, 1942 and he died in 1977.
She was a former employee of Burgess Battery in Freeport.
Evelyn was a lifelong Freeport resident who enjoyed her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother whose positive attitude and loving spirit will be missed.
She was very appreciative of Don DeVries and Morgan Memorial Nursing Home who served as her caretakers in her final years.
Survivors include: Brothers, Donald DeVries and Dale (Marilyn) DeVries both of Pearl City; Son in-law, Richard (Mabel) Louthain of Rockford; Daughter in-law, Gracie (Roemer) McKee of Wisconsin; Daughters, Shirley and (Joe) Oppold of Stockton and Marilyn Shay of Freeport; 11 grandchildren, Laura Padron of Rockford, Craig (Michelle) Louthain of Belvidere, Steve Louthain and his special friend Sue Hanson of Rockford, Sally (Mike) O'Mara of Freeport, Bill Roemer of Wisconsin, Bob (Sheila) Roemer of Merimac, Wisconsin, Randy (Cheryl) Roemer of Oscala, Florida, Joe Oppold III of California, Jerry Oppold of Stockton, Mike Marcum of Freeport, and Beth Ann Wilken of Freeport; several great and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Gwen, her husband, Bill Roemer in 1977, her daughter, Carol (Anderson) Louthain in 1987, and her son Roland Roemer in 1999.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main St., Freeport, Illinois, with Reverend Don Jamerson of First Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established in her name for the American Cancer Society.
