Florence Ruth Lucille Dikkers, age 99 of Shannon, IL, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, 7 weeks shy of her 100th birthday, at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Freeport, IL. She was born November 29, 1925; the daughter of the late David and Clara (Ludolf) Hull. Ruth married John H. Dikkers on July 22, 1945 at Cedarville Emmanuel Congregational Church in Cedarville, IL. John passed on March 15, 2013.
She was a graduate of Freeport High School where she was a member of the Honor Society. Ruth and John worked together on their farm. She attended Cedarville Emmanuel Church and Baileyville Reformed Church where she was very active in the Women's Society, Bible study, and the kitchen. She enjoyed gardening, reading and working puzzles. Ruth was a talented cook and baker. She was known for her pies and desserts.
She is survived by six children, Dolores (Richard) Woessner of Pearl City, Mary Dikkers, Linda Miller of Freeport, Ken (friend Beth Issacson) Dikkers of Shanon, Rhonda Youngblut, of Freeport, and Sandra Murphy of Shannon; twelve grandchildren: Roy Woessner, Paul (Rose) Woessner, Stacy Miller, John (Kelly) Miller, Angela (Eric) Dykema, Laura Youngblut, Kyle Younglut, and Rachel (Ryan) Vance, and William (Bethany) Murphy, Katherine (Landon) Gauthier, Anthony Murphy, and Steven Murphy; 11 great grandchildren: Harley & Colton Miller; Tristan Dykema; Henry, Jack, & Alex Woessner; Winifred & Eira Vance; Asher Murphy; and Elsie & Dorothy Gauthier; sister-in-law, Catherine Hull; and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brothers, Oliver (Marie) Hull, James (Violet) Hull, and Elwood Hull; sisters, Rachel (Richard) Slaght, Irene Bauch, Marjorie (Norman) Kuhlemeier, and Pauline Hull; infant brother, Lowell; infant sister, Edith; and son-in-laws, Orville Miller and Brian Murphy.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. The funeral service be Friday, October 17, 2025 at Baileyville Reformed Church in Baileyville, IL at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
