Freeport: Flora A. "Flo" Downing, 87, died Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Parkview Home, Freeport. Born April 6, 1920 in Freeport, she was the daughter of William and Flora (Dame) Krueger. On December 8, 1939 she married Clinton M. "Bud" Downing in Freeport and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1967. Flo worked at Micro Switch, she was hired in 1950 as the first women production inspector "in a man's world". She loved to travel and spend time with her special friends, Mary Guentner, Peggy Isaac and Marcene Kubly. Surviving are her three sons; Karl (Donna) Downing, William (Carolyn) Downing and Steve (Sandra) Downing all of Freeport; one Son-In-Law, Russel Auer of Freeport. 10 Grandchildren: John (Deb) Auer, Mary (Jeff) Hagemann, Jill (Brent) Bryden, Chuck (Sara) Downing, Jim (Rhonda) Downing, Ed (Michele) Downing, Susan (Tony) Picha, Chris (Susie) Downing, Stephanie Downing, and Haley (Nick Moeller) Downing. 17 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 Daughter, Ruth Ann Auer, 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Walker Mortuary, Freeport. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name for the American Heart Association.
