Florence Genevieve "Gen" Borchers, 101, of Freeport, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Gen was born on a farm September 25, 1914 in Blairstown, Iowa; her parents were Robert and Fannye (Hayden) Henry. When she was in first grade, the family moved to Traer, Iowa and she graduated from high school there in 1932. Gen attended Iowa State University and taught Home Economics for four years in Iowa schools. She met Russell Borchers at the university and they later married on July 26, 1941. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before he died in 2002. She was a long-time member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. Her greatest passions were the church, her family and friends, flowers, healthy eating, and exercise.
Surviving are her children, Charlotte Borchers and John (Anna) Borchers; her sister, Marjorie Juel; her granddaughters , Natalie and Rachel Borchers; her step-grandsons, Adam (Mary) Becvar, Aaron Becvar, and Joshua (April) Cook; her step-great grandchildren, Sean, Cameron, and Madison Cook; her many nieces and nephews and her special caregiver, Sharon Koertner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. A private burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church.
