Florence E. Fawver, age 92 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Manor Court in Freeport. She was born December 14, 1929 to the late Donald and Emma (Tamling) Maize. She graduated from Dakota High School with the class of 1947. Florence married Howard J. Spielman on February 24, 1950; he passed in 1981. In 1984, she married Philip Fawver; he passed in 1995.

Florence was a cook for Freeport High School and Center School of Freeport for 20 years, retiring in 1994. She was raised and was married in the Winneshiek EUB Church. In recent years she attended the Gospel Outreach of Freeport. She was involved in many groups and activities of the churches she attended. She was also a member of the Joy Singers. Florence enjoyed crocheting and was a talented cake decorator, making wedding, birthday and other special occasion cakes for her family and others. She loved to travel with both of her late husbands, especially traveling out west and a trip to Alaska. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan and she leaves fond memories of making popcorn for every game.

Above all else, she loved the Lord and her family. She was the eldest of 9 children who remained close over the years. There were large family gatherings on Sunday afternoons at one farm or another. She proudly watched her children and grandchildren in their sports and activities.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Charles) Terpening and Dianne (Thomas) Mathews both of Freeport; sons, James (Susan) Spielman of Columbia, MO and Thomas (Susan) Spielman of Newton Falls, OH;  grandchildren, Stephen Terpening (Kristi Ragsdale), Curtis (Stacey) Terpening, Jason (Heather) Mathews, Sheena Mathews, Lucas (Jaina) Spielman, Brittany (Emmanuel) Archibong, Kyle Spielman, Erin (Josh) Sonneson, Thomas Spielman Jr., and Katie Spielman; step-granddaughter, Andrea Pauley; 12 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; brothers, Delmar (Linda) Maize of Freeport and Lyle (Deborah) Maize of Paris, TN; sister, Annabelle (Donald) Welling of Rock City, IL; and special high school friend Juanita Thomas of LaGranda, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Howard Spielman and Philip Fawver; brothers, Lawrence Maize and Jerry Maize; and sisters,  Delores Martz, Pauline Sager, and Carol Contardi.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17 ^th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. The funeral service will be Monday, July 18 ^th at 10:00 a.m. at the Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church in Freeport.   Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
