Floyd D. Carter, 94, of Freeport died Monday, February 10, 2014 at Stephenson Nursing Center. Born February 17, 1919 in Winnebago County he was the son of Edward and Ruth (Todd) Carter. On November 23, 1946 he and Gwen Wherley were united in marriage in Rockford, IL. Floyd was a veteran of the United States Army from 1941-1945. He was a dairy farmer all his life farming in Stephenson County and Rockton. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport. Surviving are his wife of Freeport, two children Cindy Carter of Freeport, Michael (Carla) Carter of Holland, MI; four grandchildren Brent, Dan Carter, Jessica Kirk, Jennifer Crouse; one great granddaughter Autumn Kirk; three sisters Edith Matteson of Durand, Vivian Emmert of Winnebago, Dorothy Noegel of Montello, WI; two brothers Donald Carter of Freeport and Lawrence "Shorty" (Shirley) Carter of Rockton. Preceding him in death are his parents, one daughter Christine, an infant son Charles and a brother Robert. Cremation rites will be accorded and private family services will be held.
