He was born on February 1, 1934 to Martin and Stella (Jury) Kortemeier. He attended Freeport High School and graduated in 1952. He married Irene Jacobs on May 1, 1954 and together they built a wonderful life of love and family.

Fritz also served in the Army National Guard for 9 years. He and Irene were faithful members of Bethany United Church of Christ for many years. Irene passed in November of 2025.
Fritz attended many sporting events and school activities watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate. He enjoyed playing cards especially poker, visiting casinos, eating out with his wife, attending family gatherings of holidays, birthdays and anniversaries, and, of course, cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers. One tradition he treasured was attending the Indy 500 race with his family especially his sons and grandsons. Fritz first attended the race in the early 60’s and went every year for more than 50 years.
Surviving are his four children, Michael (Karin) Kortemeier of German Valley; Kathleen (William) Moring of Canton, Illinois; Lisa (Scott) Ross of Forreston and Mark (Sandy) Kortemeier of Freeport. His legacy also includes 7 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren and 1 step great-grandchild. Fritz was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, sister and brother in law Marjorie and Leo Kraut, sister June Runte, and brother and sister in law Virgil and Doris Kortemeier.
