Freeport – Frederick T. Hooper, 94 of Freeport passed peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, October 17th at Ascension Living St. Joseph Village in Freeport.  He was born on November 14, 1928 in Bellevelle, WI to the late Thomas and Mildred (Haskens) Hooper.   He married Carole Samuel on January 9, 1954 in San Franciso, CA and together they raised a family.  She died June 8, 2020.

Fred was a machine operator at Burgess/Sundstrand for many years after proudly serving our country as a Marine in the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954 where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and Ribbon.

Fred enjoyed watching the Chicago White Sox baseball team, the Chicago Bears, playing Euchre and spending time with family.  He is survived by his children, Cathy Levine of Beachwood, OH; Jody (Chris) Coppens of Madison, AL; David Hooper of Freeport; Steve Hooper of Lena; Sandy Kampmeier of Lena and Tashi (Rodney) Young of Winslow.  He also leaves behind his brother, Bobby Hooper of Rockford. His legacy includes 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carole his infant son, Michael; his sisters, Shirley Bennett; Liz Qualey, Luella (Bob) McConnell, Bessie Slinde and brother, Bill Hooper.

Services will be Friday, October 20, 2023 with a visitation beginning at 10am at Walker Mortuary and a service that will immediately follow at 11am also at Walker Mortuary.  His final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, next to Carole.  A memorial has been established in his name for the St. Croix Hospice in Rockford, Illinois.  Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com.
