Gary C. Mohr, 77, of Freeport, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at FHN Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Born December 15, 1937 in Freeport he was the son of Ervin and Nina (Gloss) Mohr. He married Grace Schaffer December 19, 1959 in Elkton, South Dakota. Gary was a United States Air Force Veteran serving from November 1956 to November of 1960. After leaving the military he worked for Northwestern Telephone Company, then Chicago Motor Club. He continued his insurance career with the Schramm & Mohr Agency, and then the Union Service Agency. He retired in 1999. An avid hunter he was a member of the Stephenson County Sherriff's Reserve, served with the Lena Police, and for a time was chief of the Pearl City Police.
Surviving is his wife, Grace of Freeport; daughter, Stacey (Douglas) Dach of Freeport; son, Cameron (Laurie) Mohr of Batavia; sister, Kris (Sharon Marassa) Mohr of Freeport; four grandchildren, Robert and Dayna Mohr of Batavia, Dustin and Kirstin Dach of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Dolores Clark. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Stephen Precht of Our Redeemer Lutheran church officiating. Visitation will be 12 noon until time of service Monday at the Mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for American Cancer Society and All Veterans Memorial Park.
