Freeport – Gary E. Stanis, 70 of Freeport died suddenly at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born on July 8, 1951 to the late Raymond and Dorothy (Hanus) Stanis. He graduated from St. Ignatius High school in Chicago, IL and received his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Illinois Chicago in 1972. He and Michele Modglin were married on November 25, 2001 in Freeport.
Gary was a long time, local insurance agent, tax preparer. Mason and a member of the Tri-County Gun Club. He and his wife owned two agencies in the area. He enjoyed watching old TV shows from the 50's, road trips with his wife to New Orleans, taking in Civil War National Parks and Battlefields One of their most memorable vacations was a trip to Hawaii. He had a dry sense of humor and was known to be a practical joker in high school.
He is survived by his wife, Michele of Freeport and his five daughters Amanda (Kyle) Peterson of Las Vegas, NV; Nicole Vick of Avon, IL; Megan Rouse of Galesburg, IL; Alison Rouse and Samantha Stanis both of Freeport. His legacy also includes his grandchildren, Sabrina, Aaron, Clara and Payton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark Stanis.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a celebration of life at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Freeport, IL Salvation Army.
