Gayle R. Plapp, 85, of Quincy, formerly of Freeport, died July 27, 2011 at the Illinois Veteran Home in Quincy.
Born April 24, 1926 in Walnut he was the son of Reverend Ezra E. and Bertha A. (Block) Plapp. He married Jewell (Judy) Clark and she preceded him in death in 1990. He married Geraldine Plapp on November 16, 1991 and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2006..
Gayle was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1944 through 1946.
Gayle's memberships included, United Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite Bodies, Tebala Shrine, Rockford Legion of Honor, Freeport High Twelve, Freeport Shrine Club, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and AMVETS.
Gayle was retired from the Title Insurance - Abstracting Business.
Surviving are his stepfamily and nephews, Allan (Kathleen) Plapp of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Dr. Dale (Kathy) Plapp of Douglas, MI, and Michael (Sophie) Plapp of Scottsdale, AZ; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and his sister, Marjorie Bass of Monroe, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Walker Mortuary.
Interment of his cremated remains will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas.
