Gene Tober , 84 of Durand, IL, passed away peacefully November 12, 2019. He was born September 3, 1935 in Lynn, WI to Charles and Mabel (Scheir) Tober. Gene married his loving wife Dawn, of 51 years on November 1, 1968 in Davis, IL.

He worked for Satness Trucking in Durand, IL for several years. Gene and Dawn moved to Lynn, WI, his home place in 1978. There he worked for Lynn Township until he retired in 1999. Gene loved hunting, especially deer hunting, fishing and country music. He played guitar and had a small band with his wife Dawn. Gene dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also loved his dog "Buddy."

Gene will be dearly missed by his wife, Dawn; brother, Merlie Tober; son, Wayne Tober; step-children, Karen (Bobby) Haberman, Shirley (Gary) Geiser, Judy (Norm) Royster, Roland "Toad" (Barb) Rollie, Barbara Rollie, Lorrie Meier; daughter-in-law; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; son, Ferlin; brothers, Wil and Donnie; and step-son, Ron Meier.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota, IL with a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Laona Cemetery in Durand. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
