Obituary

Genevieve Alberta Schoch, 93, of Dakota passed away peacefully Monday, October 27, 2014 at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport. She was born May 6, 1921, in Freeport, daughter of Frank and Mildred (Daughenbaugh) Kuehl. On August 8, 1942, Genevieve and Roger Wayne Schoch were united in marriage in Rossville, GA. Roger died November 3, 1966, in Madison, WI. Prior to her marriage, she worked at W.T. Rawleigh, Kraft and Structo in Freeport. She was a homemaker and babysitter who watched many children in the Rock City and Davis area. For 25 years Gen was a caregiver in the home of Art and Ada Pieper in Davis. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in rural Davis and a former member of Home Bureau. Gen was fastidious in taking care of her yard and her home. Even after breaking her hip and using a walker, it was not uncommon to see her out picking up leaves and small sticks from the lawn. In good weather, she would walk around the town picking up cans for recycling and coins on the streets for her great-grandchildren. Having lived through the Depression, she was a saver who learned to do with less. She enjoyed playing word games, and clipping articles from the newspaper to send to her daughter and sister. She also loved her sweets, and always had hard candies nearby. While at the Stephenson Nursing Center she enjoyed playing bingo, whamo and other games. She also loved to sit outside in the sun on the patio. Surviving her are her children, Roger W. (Donna) Schoch Jr. of Dakota and Carol J. Schoch of Waco, TX; grandchildren, Karin (David) Kopecky of Kingman, AZ, and Steve Schoch of Dakota; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Adam Kopecky and Tanner, Holly and Brady Schoch; sister Jeanette Jacobs of Conroe, TX; half-sister, Kathryn Rubendall of Loves Park; half-brother Chuck Penticoff of Shannon and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were two sisters Joyce Ryan and Tiny May; a half-sister, Dorothy Babcock; brothers Lee, Ken Bob, Fritz and Mike Kuehl; and half-brothers, John and Lloyd Penticoff. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna with Reverend Scott Naevestad officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul Church of Epleyanna Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to the time of service at church. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
