Freeport: George L. Borchardt, 86 formerly of Dakota died Saturday June5, 2010 at Stephenson Nursing Center, Freeport. Born December 17, 1923 at McConnell, IL, he was the son of Henry and Carrie (Lake) Borchardt. On August 31, 1944 he married Mary "Ruth" Harnish in McConnell, IL and she preceded him in death in June of 2004. George worked at the Freeport Garage for many years and also maintained the city taxi cabs in Freeport. He was an avid fisherman and loved watching his classic western movies. He served in the U.S. Army from June of 1946 until April of 1947. George is survived by one Brother, John Borchardt of Richland Center, WI; two sisters, Viola White of Monroe, WI and Rosemary Borchardt of Silvis, IL; six nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two infant children, three brothers and one sister.
