Freeport-George R Culver, 86, of Freeport, died Friday July 2, 2004, at Parkview Home.
Born December 26, 1917 in DeKalb he was the son of George and Bess (Sipe) Culver. He married Cleone B Shepard September 9, 1943
He worked for Commonwealth Edison for 42 years.
A World War II veteran his memberships included First Lutheran Church, AMVETS, Golden K. Kiwanis, and IBEW Union for 55 years.
An avid sports fan he was a member of the famous Western States Baseball team. He coached Little League, was a long time local referee, and was a past president of Illinois Referee's Associaton.
Surviving is his wife, Cleone of Freeport; daughter, Kathleen D. Culver of Cordova, Tennessee; son, Stephen D. Culver of Polo.
His parents and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Reverend Neville Kretzmann of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Friends may call Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for First Lutheran Church.
