George W. Fogel Sr. 97 of Freeport died Monday June 26, 2006 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born March 13, 1909 in Excelsior Springs, MO he was the son of Joseph and Emma Fogel. He married Jennie Hawes on November 23, 1929 in Freeport she died November 21, 1999. George worked for Barber Coleman in Rockford as a precision inspector for 17 yrs. His memberships included Scottish Rites, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, a member of Alcoholics Anonyms for 52 yrs and was known as "The Mayor"" of Liberty Village.
He is survived by one daughter Susie (Fred) Bess of Franklin, TN; one son George Jr. (Yvonne) Fogel of Carlinville; daughter in law Rose Fogel of Brookfield, WI; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife and one son Don.
Visitation will be 1:00 pm until the time of service at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established in his name for the Church and Shriner Hospital.
